This is a very simple process to replace the tailgate
handle.
Tools needed: T-30 Torx Bit, 10mm socket with extension
The only slowdown to the install was spray-in bedliner was sprayed
on the torx headed screws. We had to pick these out. If you have a
spray in done, ask them to tape off these screw heads. Odds are you
will be replacing the handle in the future because of the plastic
construction.
First step is to remove the Torx head screws from the back of the
panel. This can be done with the tailgate up or down:

With the screws removed, you can remove the panel. If it has
spray-in liner,
you may want to take a utility blade and cut the bedliner around
the panel:

If the gate is up, you can pull on the rod to release the tailgate
and lay the tailgate down. There are 2 nuts that need to be removed
using a 10mm socket with extension:

With the 2 nuts removed, it becomes self-evident how to swap them
out. Remove the old one and install the new one. BEFORE putting the
back panel back on, make sure everything is functioning correctly
by opening and closing the gate a couple of times. If everything is
good, install the rear panel with the torx head screws you removed,
close the gate and look at a job well done:
